Mohammed Irfan’s heroic helped Uganda to register huge win against Vanuatu as they surpassed Vanuatu by 81 runs.
Vanuatu’s skipper Mansale called the coin’s side right and asked Uganda to bat first. Vanuatu’s bowler were proving their captain’s call worthy with early wickets. Stephen sent back Uganda’s skipper Mukasa in second over itself followed by a wicket of Sesazi off Matautaava’s delivery in very next over. After then, Kayondo and Masaba added 39 runs for third wicket. Masaba played composed inning with 28 runs from 60 balls with a fours. After departure of Masaba, Kayondo added 48 runs with Muhumuza. Uganda was struggling with slow run rate but then Mohammed Irfan joined the crease and started to smash Vanuatu’s bowlers. He played 17 balls and added 51 runs for his side with 7 sixes and a four. Riazat Ali Shah also played helpful hand with 38 runs from 23 balls with 4 huge sixes. Kayondo, who hung there for 105 balls also added 44 runs. These combined batting effort summed up 222 runs total for the lost 8 wickets. Stephen bagged 3 wickets for Vanuatu followed by 2 wickets by Nipiko. Matautaava and Mansale picked up a wicket each.
In response, Vanuatu’s batsmen were answer less against Uganda’s bowler. Vanuatu’s skipper Mansale’s effort went in vein as he was helpless out in the middle. He scored 69 runs from 110 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours. Tari struggled there for 71 balls but only managed to add 20 runs. Some tremendous bowling from Uganda’s bowlers and awful shot from Vanuatu’s batsmen resulted 141 runs for Vanuatu, losing all wickets within 47 overs. It was a dream day for Mohammed Irfan as he picked up 3 wickets. Riazat Ali Shah also picked up 3 wickets. Nsubuga and Ssenyondo took 2 and a wicket respectively.
With this victory, Uganda climb up to second spot with similar points with Malaysia as positive net runrate put him ahead. Uganda will face table topper Denmark tomorrow where Vanuatu will play against Bermuda.
